OZN – Vegan Nail Polish

Modern and resilient vegan nail polish with a perfect gloss and shine – aspiring to make the world a little less toxic by using sustainable and ethically sourced ingredients.

Who is this brand for?

Our nail polish is for any consumer of heart & mind. Quality-conscious and sustainable, without harmful ingredients. Our products are created with a lot of love and passion, because for us consumption has a lot to do with respect for people and things. In this way, something “unimportant” like nail polish can still be considered valuable and special. Our customers feel this very clearly and love us because of it.

What makes it Amazingy?

At OZN, we do not use any substances or color pigments of animal origin for our vegan nail polishes – such as carmine, a red pigment obtained by squeezing scale insects found in Nepal. This animal dye is used not only for classic red, but also for pink, purple, brown and many other shades. In addition to carmine, there are also pigments such as guanine, which is often used for Schiller effects and consists of fish scales. But nail care varnishes can also contain animal ingredients like keratin. Keratin is obtained from the hair, horns or hooves of animals. We do not only dispense with ingredients from killed animals, but also with all animal substances such as beeswax. And of course our paints are CRUELTY FREE, i.e. without animal testing.

In addition, our production runs strictly according to Halal guidelines. This means that no animal products can be found in the lubricants, running oils or greases we use for our production and filling machines, nor in the cleaning and disinfecting liquids. There is no parallel storage with animal products and we have our own machines and filling systems for our vegan products. We fill all of our paints on site in Germany and ALL of the ingredients we use are manufactured in Germany.

How will these products benefit you?

In addition to achieving the very highest product quality, it is particularly important to me that we work as little as possible with harmful chemical ingredients. This means that we largely avoid substances that are suspected of being harmful to health. Of course, you cannot use purely organic or natural ingredients for nail polishes. But there are alternative solvents and compounds that are biodegradable and therefore do not harm your health or the environment – such as butyl acetate, a solvent made from acetic acid.

Our nail polish is in very high demand, and we really want to offer a high-end product to our customer. For this reason, we started in 2016 to optimize the base of our polishes. The result is even better durability, coverage and a shorter drying time. We have also added vitamins A, C, E and provitamin B5 to give your nails the perfect care. These vitamins maintain and strengthen the nail and maintain its natural flexibility and strength. The result is impressive: no more brittle nails, no more splitting and no more kinking.

Is there a “hero” product?

Our absolute hero product is our nail polish remover! We use 100ml dibasic ester DBE for our nail polish remover. This solvent is a clear, colorless liquid that has a pleasantly mild odor and is absolutely ecologically compatible. It is created through the reaction between an acid and an alcohol (with the elimination of water) and does not require labeling as a hazardous substance.

Other ingredients are:

Vitamin E Acetate - an oily, odorless, water-insoluble liquid. This synthetic provitamin E is not only used as an additive for cosmetics, but also for the manufacture of medicines.

D-Phantenol / 50P - a compound that is also used as an active ingredient in the treatment of skin diseases, mucous membranes and in medical-grade skincare.

Aloe vera gel - obtained from the water storage tissue of the aloe vera’s leaves. It has anti-inflammatory, wound-healing and moisturizing effects.

Glycerin - a sugar alcohol. Because of its water-binding properties, glycerine is used as a moisturizer in cosmetics production.

OZN products do NOT contain:

  • Formaldehyde (considered a carcinogen, but it may be used in Germany if the concentration is below 1%)
  • Formaldehyde resin
  • Toluene (a solvent, degreases the skin and may lead to inflammation)
  • Colophonium (a harmful resin, may lead to contact eczema)
  • DBP, dibutyl phthalate (a plasticiser, inhalation or ingestion can lead to health problems and temporary symptoms such as dizziness, nausea and headache; the European Union considers DBP toxic for reproduction)
  • Paraben (preservatives)
  • Xylol (a solvent, may be a health hazard when absorbed through the skin and the respiratory tract, may cause headaches, memory and orientation problems, dizziness and dyspnoea)
  • Acetone (a chemical compound that may irritate the skin; the vapours may cause nausea)
  • TPHP, triphenyl phosphate (may affect the hormonal balance, reproduction and metabolism)
  • Mineral oil
  • Silicone

The above-mentioned substances are harmful to your health and are not environmentally friendly.

As for the colour pigments used in nail polishes, OZN also sometimes make use of the so-called AZO colours. AZO colours are suspected of being carcinogenic or causing allergies and inflammations. However, the potential risks associated with nail polish are completely irrelevant, as the dyes do not come into direct contact with mucous membranes, as it is the case with eye shadows, where they sometimes get in touch with the eye, nor are they accidentally "consumed" as it may happen with lipsticks.

A message from the founder:

"I love nail polish, I'm a nail polish junkie! But I also love people and beautiful things and the idea of creating something that corresponds 100% with my ideas and principles. My many years of experience in the beauty industry have taught me a lot – but more than anything, that I can and only want to sell something that I personally think is great and would also buy myself." — Nina Skarabela, OZN Founder
