Behind the Brand: Lieblinge

“Lieblinge” are more than just any shoes – they’ll be your “favorite” ones!

The slipper season is upon us and, as such, we would like to introduce you to the Berlin-based company Lieblinge, a designer of shoes and slippers for adults and children.

What you’ll love most about them is that their shoes are eco-friendly and are produced with consistently low emissions.

All of the materials used by Lieblinge comply with the highest environmental standards and are completely harmless to nature. The production of their shoes takes place exclusively in manufacturing sites in Berlin, allowing their products to proudly display “Made in Germany” on the label.

You’ll see just how easy it is to go the extra mile when you have your Lieblinge on — besides the fact that the shoes are environmentally friendly, sustainable made only from leather that has been produced with incredibly low emission rates, they are also ergonomically designed.

The design is inspired by the expertise & craftsmanship of Nadine Klein, and her passion is sewn into every fabric of the company. After training as an orthopedic and industrial shoe technician, she founded Lieblinge in 2004 with her husband Oliver Klein, though it was first used as a studio for custom-made men’s and women’s shoes. Oliver Klein completed his studies in 2008 as a graduate industrial designer at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee and in 2012 won the renowned BraunPrize, in the category “Global Winner” (1st Place).

Since 2013 these two visionaries have devoted themselves fully to the development, production, and distribution of their brand. Their vision, to create beautiful and durable shoes, is one which Oliver also sees as a kind of generational contract. Sustainability is important to him for several reasons — Lieblinge‘s environmentally conscious means of production should set an example for the coming generations to build upon.

“We were given this planet as a present. Leather is only available to us as long as we eat meat. Therefore, we should take advantage of it, leaving behind as little waste as possible…”

Orthopedic shoe production meets contemporary design:

Lieblinge doesn’t only provide us with our favorite comfortable shoes. Oliver and Nadine Klein offer products with that “WOW” factor. Every detail is well thought out, both orthopedically and stylistically. With their children’s shoes, for example, there is very little shaping support added, because the feeling of walking in bare feet builds the foot muscles comprehensively, strengthens the sensory motor functions involved in walking, and helps to prevents any future misalignment within the framework of the foot.

The materials they use are given the same amount of consideration: the leathers and furs are treated as little as possible and are always chrome-free, the soles are manufactured from natural rubber without the use of plasticizers, and even the laces are eco-certified.

In addition to children’s shoes and slippers for the home, Lieblinge plans to unveil fashionable styles of desert boots for adults in the near future. Amazingy’s co-owner Floris van Onna bought a pair of Lieblinge slippers for every one of his employees. Now we don’t bring any dirt into the office and we never have cold feet! Since the wet Berlin autumn is turning into an even colder Berlin winter, we don’t hesitate to slip our weathered feet into our cozy Lieblinge slippers.
