PCA, short for pyrrolidone carboxylic acid, is a hydrating agent naturally occuring in healthy skin at about 12%. With age this drops.
Sodium PCA is the sodium salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid and makes the molecule water-soluble and a potent hydrating agent as it can reach deep into the epidermis. It aids the skin retain moisture thus improving dry skin conditions. It also helps keep the acid mantle intact thus reducing inflammation, which contributes to skin ageing.
Sodium PCA is naturally sourced from plants, fruits and coconut oil.
It can be found in lotions, creams or serums; in hair conditioning products it e.g. improves the combability of wet hair.
