Cetearyl alcohol is a thick subststance that is naturally derived from palm oil and coconut oil (can also be manufactured in modern laboratories). In skin care industries it is mainly used to thicken the product. As a common ingredient found in creams, lotions, moisturizers etc. it helps make skin soft and supple, and helps dry skin hydrate. Non-irritating.
