Yummy Mummy: Violeta

Yummy Mummy is a recurring feature on Amazingy Magazine that serves to shine a spotlight on the supermoms who combine raising a family with their own career and life goals — and look great while they do it.

Let me introduce you to Violeta, our next Yummy Mummy. A mother of three children, Vio originally comes from Serbia, but has been calling Berlin her home for a couple of years now. She is not only a very charming and loving woman, but is also completely irreplaceable for Amazingy. Vio is responsible for all the beautiful products in our warehouse and makes sure that all our orders are received on time. She’s always on top of everything, never loses her temper and is the kind soul behind the scenes.

Vio also happens to be one of my closest friends. I’m meeting her for a quiet evening walk in our neighborhood in Berlin-Wedding. Holding a warming cup of tea in our travel mugs, we walked along the local canal, strolling through the fallen leaves and talking about life and our work…

Age: 43
Kids: Stefan (24), Filip (19), Nina (17)

What’s your personal opinion on natural cosmetics?

I’ve been working for Amazingy for about three years now, so it’s just logical that I’ve informed myself about the whole topic of natural cosmetics. I pretty much sit at the source of it. As soon as you learn about all these harmful ingredients, you cannot go back.
However, I try to put it all into perspective. I come from Serbia and was always surrounded by more pressing issues. But I am a mother and as I get older, I worry a lot more about my health in general.
I try to use only natural products. Except for my hair, where I still haven’t found the right conditioner. I color my hair with chemicals, which is why it needs special care. Sometimes I make my own mask with some oil. To get my hair squeaky clean I use the Deep Cleansing Shampoo by Unique.

What are your tasks at Amazingy?

Well, I boss everyone around at the warehouse! (Vio laughs) No, that was a joke of course. I take care of the warehouse logistics. I re-order products, count the inventory, check the expiration date on products, receive new products and make sure that we optimally use our space.
The delivery guy rings our doorbell about 20 times per day. Every day at 3pm, our packages get picked up by DHL. So we have time until then to pack every order. I used to do a lot more, make samples, pack orders and write postcards for our customers. Luckily, I have a lot of lovely colleagues who are helping me with that now.
I hardly ever get bored. There is always something to do.

When did you become a mom and how has this experience changed you?

I had my first child when I was 19. God, was I young. Back then this was somehow normal though. Now I can say, that there are definitely benefits to being a young mom. My kids are all grown up and I am still relatively young. Which is why I am somewhat closer to them. I am not your typical mom. I go out a lot, have drinks with friends or meet my girlfriends and we go out dancing. Oh, and I love to travel! At the beginning of this year, I went to the Philippines! No kids, just me and friends. That was amazing!

Tell me about your children. What’s your relationship like?

I am very proud of my kids. They are all well-behaved and have a strong sense of responsibility. My oldest son lives in Serbia and I miss him a lot. He has his own business, which is incredible as he is still so young.
My two younger kids still live with me and go to school. We are all very close and my kids love each other a lot. We talk about everything, nothing is taboo. This is what makes a great family in my opinion.

How does a typical day in your life look like?

Normally, I wake up very early, as I am an early bird myself. I would like to say that I practice yoga every morning, but that would be a lie. But I ride my bike to work pretty much every day. I am at the warehouse around 8. I take this extra hour I have for myself to check on orders and plan my day ahead. When the day is done, I spent a lot of time with my friends and family or I go out to exercise for a bit.
I do the housekeeping on the side. As my kids are older, I don’t have to fix them dinner or do their laundry. They can do that by themselves. Sometimes I have to remind them or give them a specific task, but in general they know what to do. I don’t have to act too motherly around them.

What’s your beauty secret? Do you have a favorite product from Amazingy?

I try to sleep enough and drink enough water. Oh and I use Amazingy products.
I love the Ultra Light Moisturizer by Kimberly Sayer, since it also includes sunscreen. I also use the eye cream by Dr.Alkaitis. For body care, I love the Nuori Vital Body Balm and I use Pai’s Camellia and Rose Gently Hydrating Cleanser.
I tend to wear hardly any makeup, normally only some mascara and the Mineral Foundation and Blush by HIRO. If I go out I love to wear an ILIA lipstick in the shade “Perfect Day”, a vibrant orange-y red. And some RMS’ Living Luminizer.

Here’s how Natalia our makeup artist achieved this look:
