Vegan Hot Chocolate with Coconut Cream — Share Love Not Secrets

Is it just us, or is the cold already seeping into your bones, too? ❄️ Thankfully, Marleen from Share Love Not Secrets is providing us with another vegan recipe — this time a sip of something sweet to keep our chilly bones warm these coming wintry weeks! So grab a friend, find a blanket, and put on a feel-good flick while you enjoy this creamy cocoa sensation (aka vegan hot chocolate)

Vegan Hot Chocolate
with Coconut Cream

(serves 2 — you’ll need a saucepan and hand mixer)

Ingredients:

Chocolate milk —

  • 3 cups (750 ml) almond milk
  • 30 g cacao, more to taste
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp agave syrup, more to taste
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Coconut cream —

  • 400 ml canned coconut milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp agave syrup

Topping: shaved dark chocolate

Preparation:

  1. Store your coconut milk in the fridge one day in advance.
  2. Pour the milk in a saucepan and warm on low heat — don’t bring to boil.
  3. Sift in the cacao and stir with a whisk. Mix well. Add more cacao to taste; you don’t want the milk to be to ‘watery’ — the more you add, the stronger and creamier your chocolate milk will be.
  4. Take the chocolate milk from the stove and mix in the cinnamon, agave syrup (again, adding more to taste) and the vanilla extract.
  5. To make the coconut cream, open the can and scoop out the hardened part of the milk in a bowl. (You can keep the liquid milk for other purposes, for example: a smoothie.)
  6. Use a hand mixer to cream the hardened coconut milk, mixing in the vanilla extract and agave syrup.
  7. Pour the chocolate milk into cups and add the coconut cream to the chocolate milk, adding shaved dark chocolate as a garnish.
