This New Year’s eve, make your eyes sparkle

Each year, there are only a few times you can really go all out with the glittery eye make up, and New Year’s is the best excuse of all. We’ve created a look that gives your eyes that extra little bit of dazzle to help compete with all the celebratory fireworks, bubbles, and sparkles, so you can greet the New Year with your most shining face forward.

To create this look I combined different types of textures and sheens to get a result that shines.

Want to do it yourself? Here’s how you can:

First, you’ll need the following products:

Step 1: Prep your eyelids
First step is applying the RMS Cream Eye Polish in the color Imagine over the entire eyelid. I used my fingers to do this, because the warmth of your skin makes the eye polish spread and blend more easily. I decided to go for a creamy eye shadow because of its specific texture, and when combined with the sheen created by the RMS Eye Polish, it really lights up the eyes.

Heads up! Creamy eye shadows doesn’t work for all skin types. If your eyelids tend to be on the greasy side, I recommend using a matting primer, or just dabbing your eyelids with some loose powder before applying any eye shadow.

Step 2: Add accents
Next up is accentuating Jennifer’s eyes with ILIA’s Shadowplay Eyeliner, which is a soft metallic grey. This specific eyeliner also has a rather creamy consistency to it, helping to achieve a softer look.

Step 3: Sparkle time
Time to make things sparkle! To intensify the look and seal in the eyeliner, I applied a bit of HIRO’s Grey Matters Mineral Eye Shadow with an angled eye brush (such as the HIRO’s Angled Eye Brush). If you want your eyes to really pop, slightly wet the brush before applying the eye shadow. It’s not uncommon that some of the powder falls onto the cheeks or under the eyes — that’s why you do your eyes first, instead of your face.

Step 4: Get some face time
After removing whatever shimmer ended up missing Jennifer’s eyelids, I applied a moisturizing cream to create an even base to work with and to get her cheeks ready for a primer. While the cream was soaking in, I used just a touch of Kjaer Weis’ Mascara on Jennifer’s eyelashes and shaped her eyebrows with ILIA Mascara Macao.

Step 5: It’s all about the blend
To complement Jennifer’s eye’s brand new sparkle, I applied a bit of HIRO Spacebalm in the tone Altaira with the ILIA Foundation Brush. This brush’s pointed shape helps to blend the glittery eye shadow even better. On the rest of her face, I used the HIRO Mineral Foundation in the Porcelain tone, which leaves a nice shine.

Step 6: Add some life to those cheeks
To add a warm glow, I applied a bit of HIRO’s Sky was Pink Mineral Blush to Jennifer’s cheeks, followed by some Tata Harper’s Very Illuminating Highlighter just below her eyebrows, on her cheekbones, and the cupid bow of her lips. For contour, I applied some of Tata Harper’s Contouring Bronzer beneath the cheekbones as well.

Step 7: The lips are the window to the soul
Last but not least: the lips. To match the eye makeup, I went with ILIA’s Ink Pot lipstick. If you find this color to be too intense, you can opt for a more rosy or nude tone, both of which work well with glittery, sparkly eye makeup.
