Dry or mature skinDry skin occurs when the body is unable to produce enough oil in the skin. The physical process of ageing decreases the sebaceous gland activity, compromising one’s oil production. The difference between dry and dehydrated:Dry skin lacks sebaceous oil production whereas, dehydrated skin lacks the ability to retain water or moisture.Symptoms of both dry and dehydrated skin: Irritation, itchiness, sensitivity Skin feeling tight or taught Tight, dry or rough look or feel Exaggerated fine lines Severe redness and crack that may bleedHow to treat dry skin: Minimise your use of harsh soaps. Your face should feel soft and smooth after washing, not dry and tight. Prevent damaging the skin barrier with over exfoliation. Try to limit yourself to one 5 – 10 minute lukewarm bath or shower daily. If you bathe too often or if the water is too hot, you strip and wash away the skin’s oily layer and cause moisture loss. Moisturise onto damp skin. Applying a moisturiser onto damp skin seals in moisture and prevents evaporation Topical solutions are oil-rich skincare productsDon’t know your skin type?
