Flatulence is the intestinal gas which can sometimes cause pain or discomfort in the abdominal region. When there is too much gas in the bowels, the belly will become bloated. Though gas is only one of many reasons why we get bloated.
Poor eating habits or the inability to digest food properly contribute to flatulence and bloating. This can point to any number of problems along the digestive tract, from low stomach acid, lack of digestive enzymes or imbalance of gut bacteria. One of the major causes for a bloated belly is an imbalance of gut bacteria, namely Candida Albicans. When the bowel movements aren’t on a regular basis, the stool stuck there will be fermented by the gut bacteria, which will cause further flatus and bloating.
Choose your foods wisely. Cut out sugary (high-fructose) foods, avoid the brassicas family of foods like broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage, as well as legumes for a few weeks. Introduces foods that will provide beneficial bacteria to the gut, like natural yoghurt, sauerkraut, kefir and kimchi. Try the age-old remedy of apple cider vinegar in warm water first thing in the morning to aid daily digestion.
