I don’t know about you guys, but I belong to the combination skin party. This means that once summertime rolls around, my foundation, concealer, and mascara say bye-bye before it’s noon. Of course, I could skip the whole beauty regime and go bare-faced for the three months we get sunshine here in Berlin, but I just love the whole ritual of putting on my highlighter, blush and bronzer every morning. ( Also, I have face demons to cover up, so yes, I need to have some kind of makeup on my face every day)
As luck would have it, I used to live in Florida, a place where when you step out of the house, you immediately start to melt and sweat at the same time. The humid climate taught me how to keep makeup picture-perfect through even the hottest days and now I am here to share these tips with you guys. Even though you might not wear makeup every single day, there will be times when you want your eyeshadow or lipstick to last. Here are my tips:
You no longer need the heavy duty face cream you put on your face every day throughout the colder months. Still, a moisturized face is the perfect base for every makeup look. You’ll want something that will give your skin moisture while keeping oil and sweat at bay. Try a light formula like Pai’s Geranium and Thistle Day cream or Suki’s Balancing Day lotion. Both give your skin everything it needs and prep it for your foundation.
I like to completely skip eye shadows during the warmer months, but sometimes you just wanna wear a bronzey smokey eye. In that case, I recommend that you prime your eyelids with a long-lasting concealer. Try HIRO’s Space Balm, it’s the perfect base for any loose or pressed eyeshadow and will stop any creasing or crumbling.
Even if you’re skin is on the drier side, the sun heats things up quickly, causing anyone to sweat a lot. A good fixing powder will keep everything in place and prevent you from shining like a disco ball. RMS’ Un-Powder is my absolute favorite, since it comes in a translucent shade that doesn’t add any extra color and keeps you looking beautiful and fresh.
It’s your new savior when the thermostat passes 30 degrees Celsius. It refreshes your makeup look and helps to keep it all in place. On top of that, it is the most cooling and wonderful sensation for your whole body. If you can splurge, try Tata Harper’s Hydrating Floral Essence. The more affordable alternative would be Balm Balm’s Frankincense Soothing Facial Tonic. Keep it in your fridge and spray it on your face whenever you feel like your skin needs a moisturizing boost. It’s seriously the best thing ever!
If you don’t use dry shampoo already, where have you been? It’s maybe the greatest invention since melted cheese. It gives you texture, volume and saves you at least 20 minutes of hair washing and styling every morning. On hot days, our hair tends to get greasy even more quickly than usual. Lulu Organic’s Hair Powder in jasmine or lavender & clary sage will absorb the oils coming from your roots and will give you tons of volume in return. Now, you may be asking how dry shampoo is helping to prolong the life of your makeup…well technically it isn’t, but your hair needs some love and attention too.
