The nineties called… They said they’re more than happy to see us lining the whole eye again! This throwback look of a smudged, worn in eyeliner, was celebrated on the runway this season and guarantees to give you an instant cool-girl effect.
Black eyeliner was the indispensable backstage tool of Chloé, Rochas and Emilio Pucci. An elegantly smudged kohl pencil liner left a sophisticated impression in Roberto Cavalli’s show. Marc by Marc Jacobs gave us a bad girl look, while Versace, a bona fide bombshell.
Impressive and sexy, and if you mess it up a little, it’s still totally on-point! The looks were completed with heavy mascara. The final touch leads into the biggest trend of Spring/Summer 2016. Doll-like lashes were a prominent focus in many runway shows of the recent fashion weeks. As seen in Giambattista Valli, Blumarine and Alberta Ferretii.
The use of mascara has been nonexistent for a while now. We went at least a few seasons without it being the main focal point, as many make-up artists preferred the bare lashes look. This season, however, mascara has made a comeback, big time.
Products You’ll Need:
ILIA Beauty Tinted Moisurizer – Los Roques HIRO Spacebalm – Alita, Altaira ILIA Beauty Eye Liner – Rebel Rebel, Night Clubbing RMS – Voluminizing Mascara ILIA Beauty lip gloss – Love Buzz HIRO Foundation – Brown Sugar HIRO Fan Bronzing Brush
I started evening out the skin tone of my model, Andrine, with the very hydrating Tinted Moisturizer by Ilia in the shade Los Roques. Perfect complexion is key, so I used two tones of HIRO Spacebalm: Alita to correct the dark circles and Altaira to lighten up the under eye area. I recommend the Alita Spacebalm to everyone who’s not happy with the opacity of their concealer. The salmon shade cancels out the blue discoloration under the eyes and you can still use thin layers without getting it too cakey.
For the liner, I went with the mixture of the ILIA’s classic black kohl liner, Rebel Rebel and the midnight blue Night Clubbing one. The blue effect offers a rather unconventional aspect to the 90’s eyeliner. Try to really work the liner into your lash lines, all the way around the eyes and onto the water line. If you’ve struggled with having the steady hand you need for that look, this imperfectly smudged style will be a welcome change. I chose the RMS Voluminizing Mascara for the Doll-like lashes and applied about three coats. Let the individual coats dry before reapplying, unless you are going for the clumped up look, which is also totally fine if you would like that extra edge!
I left the rest of the face almost bare, to channel that Kate Moss vibe. Just a hint of ILIA’s lip gloss Love Buzz and a swipe of bronzer on the cheeks and the chin. I used the dark foundation shade Brown Sugar by HIRO and applied it gently with the HIRO’s Fan Brush. Fan brushes are also great for very light application of blushes, since they don’t pack on too much pigment.
Grunge is normally a look for the evening, but wear it in the day, it will look so beautifully unconventional!
