As soon as the cold sets in, a lot of us tend to grab lip care products. Since the delicate lip area contains very few sebaceous glands, this skin area dries out very quickly. Chapped lips are not exactly an invitation to be kissed, so lip balm is definitely needed.

All balms contain fat, which works as a protective layer, and prevents moisture from those kissable lips to escape.
There are however, constant claims floating around that using lip balm can be addictive. Some say it makes the lips dependent on them, while others add they are no longer able to produce moisture on their own.
This isn’t entirely true. Recent studies suggest that using lip balm doesn’t cause an addiction, but instead rather creates a habit. A tick that makes you want to grease up your lips constantly. Having moist lips is simply a pleasant feeling, and a lot of people reach for their balm every half an hour or so, which thankfully isn’t harmful.

Nevertheless, some lip balms do contain chemical ingredients that can indeed be harmful, or cause allergies. Artificial fragrances, flavorings and preservatives should always be avoided. The best lip balms are based on either beeswax or coconut oil, and in addition also boast a sun protection factor.

For soft lips a regular lip exfoliation is recommended. You can do this by using a soft-haired, slightly damp toothbrush. Or alternatively, turning to a product created to take care of your lips in the gentlest way possible, with ILIA Balmy Nights Lip Exfoliator old skin cells are removed, and blood circulation gets stimulated. You can do this as often as you like or need, but do it gently! If you’d like some extra color, I’d recommend a lip balm in a delicate berry tone by Tata Harper. And for those preferring to keep it simple, the fragrance free lip balm by Amazingy might just be the right thing. Here you can find all lip products at one glance.
