Yummy Mummy: Madhavi, Yogini, Full Time Blogger and Mother

Yummy Mummy is a recurring feature on Amazingy Magazine that serves to shine a spotlight on the supermoms who combine raising a family with their own career and life goals — and look great while they do it.

I’m meeting Madhavi on a gloomy Wednesday morning for coffee. Around 10 am, a radiant woman enters the place and embraces me in a hug. Madhavi is the kind of person that spreads her calming energy everywhere and it is a pleasure to talk to her. This might be because she has been already awake since 5 am and completed her daily meditation routine. Madhavi is a full time blogger at Kaerlighed.de, a Mom and a Yogini. During our talk she raves about her children, her way of life and the city of Berlin.

Age: 40
Children: 2, Nilas, 10 years old; Nika, 8 years old
Status: has been happily married for 12 years

You just recently moved with your family to Berlin so your kids can go to a Danish school. How difficult was this decision to make?
Of course, there were also other factors that played into this decision. Berlin offers the best options for our entire family. My kids go to a Danish school and I also have completely settled down here with my job. Berlin is the city where everything happens so the decision to move here wasn’t a hard one to make. Of course, my children were one of the reasons to make the move, but I see myself as much more than just a mother. It is so important to realize one’s full potential during the short amount of time that we are allowed to walk this earth.

How does a typical day in your life look like?
I wake up every morning around 4:30 am. I will then meditate for an hour and do my cleaning exercises. After that I immediately go to work since I am really a morning person and I work the most effective during this time of day. I wake my kids at 6:45. At this point I have already completed my morning routine. My husband also takes care of the kids in the morning if he’s home. He currently works a lot in Munich but we always try to share the workload at home. At 8 am my kids go to school and I can go back to work. Around noon I practice Yoga. Yoga and Meditation are both part of my everyday life. It is also the best way for me to find balance and get away from the computer. I also use it to center myself and see where I’m currently headed.

How do your kids see yoga and meditation?
My kids have always been surrounded by it. They have different relationship with their body and are very spiritual people. Of course, I don’t force them to do anything. My son starts his day with a sun prayer and a 10 minute meditation. He does it all by himself and has realized the benefits of doing it every single morning. My daughter enjoys singing mantras and also meditates a tiny bit but does everything in a very playful way. Naturally, they pick up everything and sometimes even tell me: ‘Mom, you look stressed. Why don’t you go and do some Yoga’.

You not only come across very young but also look amazing. What’s your secret?
Haha, thank you so much! I think that Yoga and Meditation play a certain role here. I also recommend the Kundalini Meditation to everyone. It just get’s rid of all the stress in your system. I go to bed early and don’t eat anything after 6 pm. I hardly drink any alcohol and follow a macrobiotic diet. And I never hold on to the past…

You have been following a plant-based diet for 20 years. How does your bathroom look like? Which products do you love?
OK, first of all I have say that I am not vegan. I don’t want to be put into certain boxes. I try to do the best I personally can, and have for 20 years now, but of course you will find some non-vegan products in my house, like a pair of leather shoes. I am simply not a dogmatic person. I just try to live consciously of my surrounding. The same applies to my bathroom. I really love ILIA’s Heart Beat lip gloss and I use Tata Harper’s Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint in the shade ‘Very Charming‘. Oh, and every evening I use the Rosehip Oil from Pai. It is such a wonderful product that has totally wowed me.
