Halloween make-up how to: Vampy Vampire

We’re in the thick of fall and the evenings are becoming steeped with the air of mystery. The brisk cool air, the foggy street lamps, the echoing voices – the ambiance alone should get you in the mood for this spooky time of year. That’s right – it’s almost Halloween. A classically American holiday, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all have a little fun with it.

What’s more whimsical than dressing up as anything you want, AND getting away with it? Here at Amazingy we’ve prepped a couple looks for you to give a whirl if it fits your whimsy. This week we’ll show you how to create a Vampy Vampire, while next week we’ll get a bit more innocent with a creepy Darling Doll.

If you’re searching for a Halloween look that is sexy, subtle, and classy, look no further. The vampire is the epitome of an elegant but deadly seduction.

Here’s how you’ll get the look

Step 1
Start out by applying a slightly lighter foundation than your natural complexion (one shade lighter). We used Ilia Beauty Foundation in the tone Tula Rosa F1. Alternatively, if you use different shades of foundation for the winter and the summer, opt for your winter go-to, as it gives you that icy look we’re going for.

Step 2
Set in the foundation with a translucent powder. For this we went with RMS Un Powder. Dust the powder lightly over the T Zone.

Step 3
Next comes the fun part – the eyes. For this you want to use a cream eye shadow that is in a reddish violent shade. We used ILIA’s Silken Shadow Stick in the shade Take on Me. The stick works particularly well for applying with precision to your upper eyelid. The shadow stick or cream eye shadow is applied as a base on the upper and bottom lid, which is coated by a more dramatic pigment powder.
The pigment we used is HIRO’s mineral eye shadow in the shade Brava Lava. The eye shadow is applied with a blending brush to soften the edges and work away hard lines. Press in the pigment of the Brava Lava onto the shadow cream on the upper and lower lid with the blender brush, then blend out the edges using a clean brush.

Step 4
Use a black eyeliner to thicken the lash line of the eyelids. ILIA’s eye liner in Rebel Rebel completed our look. Make your eyes pop with at least two coats of your favorite dramatic mascara – we used Kjaer Weis Mascara for this purpose.

Step 5
Now it’s time to slim the face by bringing some shadow into the game. We were aiming for that angular bloodsucking look. Contour the face lightly with HIRO’s mineral foundation in Olive Love, brushing it in along the cheekbone.

Step 6
Nowadays, brows are just as important as any other facial feature. Brush the brows through and apply a balm. We chose RMS Simply Vanilla, but any balm will do – including even Egyptian Magic. If you have thinner brows, fill them in with an eyebrow pencil. A friendly tip from our makeup artist: whenever wearing heavy eye makeup, make sure to fill in your brows (if necessary) to balance out the look of your face. The brows are supremely important – they’re the frame of your face, after all.

Extra tip: Using the same balm as before, apply some with your finger to the top of your cheek bones as well. This works as an understated, but effective highlighter.

Step 7
Next comes a redder shade of blush, applied lightly with a blending brush. Cheek to Cheek by ILIA went on our cheeks.

Step 8
Now here’s what gives the look its real bite (pun intended): the fangs and lips. Draw directly onto the bottom lip with a black eyeliner. Create the rough shape of a triangle whatever size you want your fangs to be, to then fill it in with white. We created the white pigment by using a mixture of a light cream foundation with a white powdered eye shadow. For this we chose two HIRO products, Space Balm in the tone 02 Altaira and White Night mineral eye shadow. The creamy space balm goes on as a base, onto which the pigment of the white eye shadow is then pressed. After getting the desired color, clean up the edges.

Next, fill in the rest of the lips using a dramatic red lipstick. Outline the fangs one last time, and PRESTO, you’ve got yourself a thirsty, lustful, vampiress all ready for a fun night out!
