DIY #4: Dry shampoo for brunettes

DIY_dry shampoo1

Dry shampoo is just one of those inventions that makes hair maintenance that little bit easier. In a rush and unable to squeeze in that last minute shower? No problem. Not only does this creation save you time, it also makes your hair look clean, and as an added bonus point like you have spent more time on it than you really have.

I have always envied blondes for being able to rub talc or corn starch into their oily hair as a quick fix. I too wanted something already in my kitchen that I could use as an instant touch up. The idea of dry shampoo never interested me, because the thought of the chemicals I would be spraying directly onto my scalp and inevitably inhaling was repellent to me.

However, just the other night I was in dire need of some dry shampoo and I was miraculously handed Green Love dry shampoo for brown hair.

It’s an all-natural dry shampoo product catered to brunettes. My prayers were answered. I simply had to know what ingredients comprised this magic powder!

Cocoa, it turns out, is the major ingredient, next to tapioca starch. This product also contains some herbs, which have been found to stimulate healthy hair growth. I was so impressed with how it made my hair look and feel that I wondered if I could do it myself at home. And, surely enough, I could!

DIY Dry Shampoo for Brunettes

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoon cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Mix the ingredients and, depending on hair colour, whether lighter or darker, add more or less cocoa.
Put the mix into a salt-shaker for easy application. Rub it in with your fingers or a fine brush. Alternatively, you can use an old foundation brush to rub it into the scalp.

HAPPY STYLING!
