It’s only April but the sun has shown her beautiful face early this year. Reason enough to get your face glowing at the same time. Highlighters have become more and more popular in the past year and I can honestly tell you that I’m kind of addicted to these little gems. Since my face is rather round and pancake-like, sometimes I try to use a highlighter to add a little dimension and shape, meaning that I basically put some on everyday.
Some might argue that most highlighters are too glittery and accentuate pores and fine lines, which is true if you use too much. Luckily, there are some highlighters that are just a dream come true when it comes to blending and highlighting just the right points of your face. Since they are all on the creamy/liquid side, they are perfect for beginners and can be worn on top of your makeup, alone or mixed in with other products.
You might already have seen, heard or used this shiny little moon tin since it is so freaking popular. Not only does it smell amazingly coconut-y, but it is also extremely nourishing to your skin. The color is definitely on the cooler side and the finish is a subtle shimmer. I think this highlighter is perfect for those of you with cooler undertones and who don’t like smearing crazy glitter on your face. It blends like a dream and the amount of product you get will last you a long time. Try using this as an eyeshadow primer or mix it in your favorite mineral eyeshadow. You will be amazed with how versatile this highlighter is.
This one has such a pearlized glow, it will knock your socks off. The formula is extremely liquid-y, so the smart people at Gressa put it in a sturdy bottle with a dropper so you can get the tiniest amount, which will be more than enough for your whole face. When applied it reminds me of something a mermaid would use, it’s so beautiful. The product itself is a lustrous white, with a hint of lilac. I just can’t get over how gorgeous it looks on my cheekbones. This may be my favorite out of all the ones I have tried.
ILIA has a trio of highlighters which all come in a stick form, which I like because it’s convenient but don’t love since sticks can sometimes ruin foundation underneath. I tried all three of them, but Cosmic Dancer just blew me away. It’s the golden one out of three and it had the dreamiest glowing finish on my skin. It reminded me of the Beatles’s Golden Slumber and no I am not exaggerating, not at all. Cosmic Dancer also lasted the longest out of all the highlighters I have tested so you can be sure that it will give you a glow all day long.
This one really intrigued me when I first saw it. Not only because Kjaer Weis has the most chic packaging, but because it’s hue is a very warm, pearly color. Like all products from this line, it is extremely creamy when it comes in contact with your warm fingertips. This made it easy to apply to my cheekbones, browbones and down the bridge of my nose. It does contain quite a bit of shimmer, so maybe test it out first by applying it to one side of your face in the daylight. More suitable as a night-on-the-town highlighter, this protduct compliments Kjaer Weis’ Cream Blush in Abundance magically and doesn’t settle into fine lines. If you are a fan of the other cream products by this brand, you will love Radiance for sure.
These are the most wonderful highlighters I have discovered so far. If I had to pick a personal favorite, it would be a tie between Gressa’s Illuminating Serum and ILIA’s Cosmic Dancer, with one of them being rather cool and the other one really warm. What highlighter will work perfectly for you definitely depends on your skin undertone and on your own personal style. I always recommend getting samples and testing them all out so you know what you’re getting yourself into.

Annie is addicted to beauty products. When she's not testing and trying out new goodies, she is usually baking the most delicious cakes and pies, which (hooray!) she then brings into the office for all to enjoy. Annie has a weakness for highlighters, oil treatments and cannot say no to anything that involves ice cream.
First things first: your skin is just as unique as…

I agree, I love KW Radiance 🙂 and I try to put it under the eyeshadow 🙂
It’s magical, isn’t it? Some might think it’s too much sparkle but you know… a little fairy dust is exactly what my face needs sometime.
