Behind the Brand: Tata Harper Skincare

Amazingy has a few true legacy brands in its roster, and Tata Harper Skincare is definitely one of them. Beloved for its complex skincare formulations and their multi-targeting benefits, the Vermont-based 100% natural & non-toxic beauty brand has seen the cosmetic industry change for the better, paving the way as one of the early pioneers of green beauty. And, lucky for us, we got the chance to ask Tata herself to take part in our Amazingy Mag brand interview series, giving us an in-depth look into her luxury skincare legacy ♥

What is the essence of Tata Harper Skincare?

Tata Harper originated in 2010. My stepfather was diagnosed with cancer, and through helping him change his lifestyle, I started to examine everything I was putting in and on my body. I couldn’t find any natural products that gave me the results and the luxury experience I was looking for, so I set out to create my own. No one should have to sacrifice their health for their beauty.

How has Tata Harper’s philosophy & vision changed over time? In what ways has the brand grown?

When we first started, formulating high-tech, ingredient-packed products with exclusively natural ingredients was a challenge. Then, once we launched our first products, the challenge we faced was overcoming this old misconception that naturals weren’t effective. Now, as we continue to grow and are more focused on international expansion, we’re facing new challenges that come with scaling a business. The fashion and beauty industries have the ability & duty to innovate their business models to implement socially-conscious supply chains, empower women through opportunities, and take accountability for their environmental impact. I see a lot of indie brands doing this and we are the ones that are transforming and guiding the way in how things should be done. It goes way further than our philanthropy missions, and my goal from day one has been to make women feel good while doing good.

Which moments have been the most rewarding in Tata Harper’s history as a company?

I’ll never forget when I saw our products in Vogue for the first time. It further validated what we were trying to accomplish and the idea that women don’t have to compromise health for beauty.

Can you tell us more about the new refillable packaging?

The future of sustainability for us is to end single-use products and I am proud to say that we have launched three refillable products so far! We’ve been working on refills behind the scenes for a while now! First, we’re doing refills for our bestsellers and eventually our entire product line. I hope that this is something that other beauty brands begin to adapt because it is so crucial in reducing the industry’s environmental footprint.

What’s special about the Superkind Line?

It has been an amazing experience creating the Superkind collection and taking a deep dive into the science of reactive skin. You realize that when you use the right filters, meticulously curate the right ingredients, and apply rigorous hypoallergenic testing, you can actually create powerful skincare for a complicated skin group – one that just happens to have a lot of restrictions, is more prone to reacting and is compromised more easily. It is a skincare line for people that love using anti-aging products but are apprehensive and think they are going to break out, react and then go through this vicious cycle of reactions.

Tata Harper Skincare Mood #2

Where did you pull inspiration from when coming up with the shades of the new Lip & Cheek makeup line?

Our Lip Crèmes are about adding a natural pop of color that elevates your skin, but doesn’t cover it up. We think of it as “color with care” because we use nourishing ingredients so you get skincare benefits with the color payoff. When thinking about the shades, we wanted to create a shade for every mood – so you have the perfect pop of color for any activity in your day-to-day:

Bubbly is a light baby pink for when you feel lighthearted and lively.
Blasé is a rosy nude for when you feel cool, calm and collected.
Juicy is a raspberry pink for when you feel extra flirty and a whole lot of fun.
Risqué is a deep berry red for when you feel bold and a little daring.
Bare is a clear shine for when you want to feel good in your own skin.

What lies in Tata Harper’s near future?

We’re always looking for the newest, innovative green technology out there and the most powerful ingredients available. One of the biggest things we’re focused on is sustainable innovations. We’re going to continue to launch product refills that will reduce overall waste, so our clients can join the movement of living a more sustainable, waste-free life.

Any final words for our Amazingy readers?

I am extremely proud whenever customers (like you!) tell me about how much our products have helped their skin. It makes me proud of what me and my team do, and it really validates the effort we put in day in and day out to try and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
