Not holy water, but close!
Frogs have thin skin. It’s so soft and permeable that it absorbs everything in their surroundings. As a result, they can’t survive in toxic environments. Scientists even study them to monitor pollution levels. Our skin is thicker than frogs’ but we live in toxic environments too – filled with free radicals, questionable air quality, and Twitter trolls. Even the thickest skin needs to take care of itself. When we wash our faces, our pores are at their most dilated and permeable, like a frog’s. This stage of your skincare routine is essential to your skin’s health and the rest of your beauty regime. That’s why HoliFrog has developed a full skincare regimen, using bioactive ingredients that give positive results – nothing toxic, nothing irritating. It’s what thick & thin skin needs, when it needs it.
What is the essence of HoliFrog?
Well, HOLI in HoliFrog mean HOLISTIC – we use holistic functional ingredients to benefit the skin’s health. We talk about every ingredient in each formula as they synergistically work together to give you healthy beautiful skin.
How has HoliFrog’s philosophy & vision changed over time? In what ways has the brand grown?
Our philosophy “Situational Skincare” has stayed the same as it’s our ethos: listening to your skin and using the right products, depending on your skin’s current situation. Our vision stays the same: creating super clean, nutrient-rich formulas that have a beneficial function to help your skin perform at its healthiest. The brand has grown into a full skincare system from just the 4 face washes we launched with back in Fall 2019.
Which moments have been the most rewarding in HoliFrog history as a company?
When launching a new product and seeing our customers react with excitement & gratitude, as they know each product we bring to market has been thoughtfully formulated and created to be the most efficacious in its category.
What is some advice the HoliFrog’s team can share with those experiencing chronic skin problems?
There are many external and internal changes that can affect how your skin behaves and what it needs. It’s about taking care of your skin’s needs as they come up, and they can change daily so you should tailor your routine accordingly. It’s good to have the right serums, moisturizer and a wardrobe of cleansers with different properties, strengths, benefits, and consistencies to benefit the skin’s overall health. Remember, our skin is an organ that honestly needs different ingredients to thrive at different times. Having a one-and-done routine or product for your skin definitely doesn’t work anymore so you have to make the call as to what it needs based on what you’re doing in it at the time.
Which HoliFrog product would you consider your “holy grail”?
Every product we create we consider a HOLI GRAIL product as every ingredient matters, but if I had to suggest one for a customer to start with, I always say our Galilee Antioxidant Dewy Drop. It’s a hydration hybrid serum that drenches and repairs the skin – without any excess filler ingredients. It’s a restoring serum that boasts antioxidants, vitamins, gentle exfoliants, non-fragrant plant oils and extracts.
What other brands are sitting on your bathroom shelves?
Currently on my bathroom shelf, I have an amazing face oil from Allies of Skin, SPF from Soleil Toujours, a hydration mask from Royal Fern and a hand cream from Kat Burki – along with a Lip Balm from Kosas!
What is something you would like to change / revolutionize in the green beauty field?
We are very transparent with everything that we create and I wish brands would be more open to being “transparent” with their formulas, as the customer is becoming more educated on what they put on their skin & bodies.
In what ways does sustainability play a role in your overall process?
Sustainability is a huge factor in today’s world and we as a brand try to do everything we can to play our part; our components are all recyclable. We have moved many items over to glass and we will start incorporating PCR into our plastics. All our products are also Leaping Bunny Certified.
What lies in HoliFrog’s near future?
We have our first SPF launching in Spring 2023 and a stunning face oil that is very special and different from what is on the market for the 2nd half.
Any final words for our readers?
Remember: the key is to feed your skin what it needs at that particular time, hence ‘situation’. Having a one-and-done routine or product for your skin definitely doesn’t work anymore, so you have to make the call as to what it needs based on what you’re doing in your skin at the time.

J. R. Thesis Smith is a mixed-race millenial in the dawn of their 30s & a wordsmith of sorts. They've spent most of their waking life in the U.S. – in the urban sprawl of NYC that is New Jersey, in the depths of its suburban echoes – but always dreamed of making their way across a bigger pond, to a place where opportunity would knock a little more often. After completing their training at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts (effectively spending three poor years in NYC) as a dance major, they gifted themselves a semester of studying abroad in Berlin, and in doing so kept a vow made in early adolescence – thereby inciting a metamorphosis of promise into full-bodied intention: to eventually fully emigrate to Berlin, the first space that had ever allowed them the freedom to find their own breath, their pace of existence. Now that they finally live there, they're learning how to breathe again – striving to become a more active member of the Undercommons as they continue on the odyssey that is their self-realization as an artistic being. Their most resonant hope is that they will be able to say what is true & necessary & kind; that people will find the time to listen, to themselves and each other; and that their voice will inspire other voices to speak out in turn.
