Many of us suffer from dry skin during the biting cold of the winter season. The main culprit: The hundreds of layers we put on when we step outside, and the constant change between the cold winter air outside and the dry heated air inside. No wonder the skin cries out for some much needed pampering.

Coffee is considered to be the best awakener by far for many. Skin and hair can also greatly benefit from caffeine. It’s rumored that the active ingredients in caffeine are firming, are effective as a decongestant and may promote blood circulation. Researchers even say that caffeine protects against UV damage.
So, time to grab some coffee and try out 2 DIY tips in the comfort of your very own bathroom.

Morning crankiness and dark circles

Drinking coffee in the morning tends to get rid of those cranky feelings, but it doesn’t necessarily help with swollen eye lids and dark circles. Black tea does. Simply brew a teabag or two for several minutes, and when they’ve cooled off, place them on your eyes. The caffeine makes the swelling go down and the tannins in the tea help tighten up the skin around the eyes. Afterwards all you need to do is apply eye cream.

Coffee peeling

Coffee grounds have another great purpose besides brewing a nice cup: You can use them as a scrub. The coffee grounds used in espresso machines have enough power in them for a full body exfoliation. Here’s how:

  • Hop in the shower and rinse your skin off, make sure it stays wet
  • Mix the coffee grounds with your favorite shower gel
  • Gently rub the mixture on your face and body
  • Rinse the scrub off and clean up the mess in your shower

This peeling will leave your skin all soft and smooth afterwards. You don’t necessarily have to follow up with a body lotion. Since the coffee grounds are relatively soft, you can do this peeling as often as you’d like.
Have fun scrubbing!
