Larnac - Watson & Son

Larnac Raw, Organic Manuka Honey by Watson & Sons
Manuka honey is so unique and expensive, because it comes from bees that only pollinate the Manuka trees, which grow almost exclusively in New Zealand. Manuka honey has always had the reputation of being a healing honey with the ability to fight infections, but we didn't really know how it did that.

Multiple recent studies however are now showing the reason: medical grade, high quality Manuka honey has antibiotic properties, because it contains several unique ingredients, the most important being methylglyoxal (or MG).  The concentration of MG in manuka honey is up to 100 times higher than in normal honey. Real Manuka honey is always raw & organic.

Manuka honey comes in different strenghts, based on the amount of methylglyoxal in the honey. We currently carry Manuka honey with MGO ratings 120+, 420+ and 720+. The golden rule here is: the higher the rating, the more potent the honey, because the higher the amount of MG in a substance is, the more of an antibiotic effect this substance will have.

What can be confusing is the use of another, older rating system for manuka, called UMF. UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor. This rating is less accurate than the GMO rating. Peter Molan, the discoverer of the antibacterial activity in Manuka honey, could not agree with the way the UMF measured anymore and is now using and recommending the use of the GMO rating system like Watson & Sons does.

Bee keepers Watson & Son take meticulous care of their bees, tracking them to make sure they only harvest nectar from areas with the highest density of Manuka trees. Their operation is fully integrated from the hive to market, placing  company in a unique position to manage every stage in the production of Manuka honey and to ensure full traceability back to the hive.

Every single batch of Larnac active Manuka honey is tested by Watson & Son and again by an independent and certified laboratory in New Zealand to measure the amount of methylglyoxal (MG). The results of these tests can be found on the product pages of our Manuka Honey so you can be sure that you will get the best.
